The Abyss
Why dive here
With 154+ marine species recorded in the area - including hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, tiger sharks and napoleon wrasse - The Abyss offers some of Great Barrier Reef's richest wall diving. Water ranges 24-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
The Abyss, a wall dive on the Great Barrier Reef, plunges steeply into the blue. We found it’s a good spot for spotting larger pelagics moving past, especially if you drift along the wall’s edge. It suits divers comfortable with open water and looking for a deeper profile. Visibility here usually holds well, making the sense of scale quite impressive.
