Why dive here
With 154+ marine species recorded in the area - including hammerhead sharks, sea turtles, tiger sharks and napoleon wrasse - Williamson Reefs offers some of Great Barrier Reef's richest reef diving. Water ranges 24-30°C, warmest January, February, March.
Williamson Reefs is a solid dive, a good example of the inner Great Barrier Reef. You’ll find a mix of hard corals, with plenty of nooks and crannies for things like Spitlure Frogfish if you have a keen eye, or the resident Grouper. We often spot schools of Yellowstripe Scad moving around the bommies. It’s a pleasant, relaxed dive, well-suited for a calm morning when you’re looking to log some bottom time and appreciate the smaller details.
Safety Notes
