Swansea Bridge - Sydney & New South Wales

Swansea Bridge, now there’s a spot. We love a good muck dive, and this one delivers in spades, right in the heart of NSW. Forget your pristine coral reefs, this is about the weird and wonderful hiding among the pylons and discarded tires. It’s a shallow dive, usually no more than 6-8 metres, making it perfect for an extended rummage. You’ll want to time this right – slack tide is your friend here, otherwise, the current absolutely rips. We prefer a night dive; the place really comes alive after dark. We’ve spent hours just hovering, spotting everything from the usual bream and perch to some really surprising finds. Look closely and you’ll find nudibranchs, tiny crabs, and sometimes even seahorses clinging to the growth. It’s a macro photographer’s dream, honestly. The visibility can be hit or miss, typical estuary stuff, but when it’s good, it’s surprisingly clear, revealing a silty, debris-strewn bottom that's far more interesting than it sounds. Expect to see lots of schooling fish, particularly those silver bream darting between the bridge supports, and if you’re lucky, a triggerfish or two patrolling the deeper edges.
