D9 Wreck - Western Australia - South

The D9 Wreck, near Albany, is a proper adventure. We've always had a soft spot for a wreck dive that feels like a discovery, and this one delivers. It’s an old naval destroyer, sunk intentionally, now lying on its side, and that tilt makes for some interesting swim-throughs. You’ll be navigating sloping decks and peering into hatches that now open into the sandy seabed, feeling that slight disorientation from the angle. What we love about the D9 is how the structure has become a home. Schools of yellowtail scad often hang around the bridge area, shimmering as you approach. Keep an eye out for resident wobbegongs tucked into crevices – they’re masters of camouflage here. Our favourite part is dropping into the engine room; it's a tight squeeze but the light filtering in from the open deck above creates a really cool atmosphere. This wreck suits divers who enjoy penetration and appreciate how marine life truly integrates with a man-made structure. We'd suggest going on a calm day, as the visibility can shift.
