H M A S Swan - Western Australia - South

The HMAS Swan, scuttled back in ‘97, is our pick for a proper wreck dive in Western Australia. We love the way she sits upright in about 30 metres, making her feel grand and accessible all at once. Drop down the shot line and you’re immediately enveloped by the sheer scale of the ship. Schools of yellowtail scad often hang in the current, shimmering like a silver curtain around the mast. Inside, you can navigate through the engine room or the bridge, feeling the cool, still water as you pass through doorways where sailors once walked. It’s eerie, but in the best possible way. Keep an eye out for resident western blue devils peering from shadowy corners and, if you’re lucky, a wobbegong shark tucked under a deck plate. The visibility can be variable, but on a good day, with the sun streaming through the open sections, it’s just magic. This one suits divers comfortable with depth and overhead environments; a wreck specialty course helps you get the most out of it. We’d suggest going early to avoid any crowds.
