Macedon Denton Hlomes Wreck - Western Australia - South

The Macedon wreck, near Rottnest Island, is a proper slice of history. She went down in 1883, and now she’s a beautiful mess of bent metal and wooden timbers, all spread out in about 10 to 12 metres of water. We love a wreck that tells a story, and you can practically feel the past here. It’s an easy dive, perfect for newer wreck divers or anyone who just wants a relaxing potter around. The stern is our favourite spot, where the propeller shaft is still visible, encrusted with sponges and soft corals. Keep an eye out for the big western blue groper that often hangs around, and we’ve seen some hefty lionfish tucked into the nooks. Visibility can be a bit variable, but on a good day, the light plays through the scattered debris wonderfully. We’d suggest going in the morning before the afternoon breeze picks up and stirs things around. It’s a gentle introduction to wreck diving, with enough character to keep things interesting.
