New Zealand Sea Adventures - Kaikōura
The team at New Zealand Sea Adventures really nail the Kaikōura dive experience. We’ve found ourselves back with them a few times over the years, mostly because they just get it. They're PADI 5 Star IDC Resort, which means serious instruction, but it's the personal touches that stick with you. We love that they often run their morning trips a little earlier, before the dolphin tours really kick off. That means less boat traffic and a calmer surface for getting in. The specialisation here is clear: diving with Kaikōura’s fur seals. It's not just a quick dip; they know the spots where the seals are curious, playful, and comfortable. We’ve had juvenile seals nibble our fins, spiral around us, and even mimic our movements. The kelp forests here are thick, swaying gently, and the light filtering through them as a seal darts past is genuinely captivating. It's cold water, usually around 12-16°C, so a good drysuit is key, but the interaction makes it all worthwhile. They also do a decent job of finding the harder-to-reach macro life if you ask, like the elusive seahorse. This is who we send our friends to when they want a truly unique interaction dive.
