Why dive here
With 35+ marine species recorded in the area - including humpback whales, seahorses and sperm whales - Flea Bay offers some of Kaikōura's richest reef diving. Water ranges 10-17°C, warmest January, February, March.
Flea Bay offers an accessible shore dive, often a good option when Kaikōura's outer sites are too exposed. We usually find it calm enough for training dives or a relaxed poke around. Expect to see rock lobsters tucked into crevices, plenty of different nudibranchs on the kelp, and a few curious blue cod. It’s a solid spot for newer divers or those looking for a sheltered, easy dive.
