Calypso Bay - Poor Knights Islands

Fantastic" isn't a hyperbolic name here; it’s just accurate. This site, a pinnacle at the very edge of the main reef, is one of our top picks in Somosomo Strait, especially if you can hit it on an incoming tide. You drop down to find massive sea fans unfolding in the current, big enough to hide behind, and the golden-yellow soft corals practically glow, painting the reef in sunshine colours even on a cloudy day. We love drifting past schools of fusiliers so dense they shimmer like a silver curtain, often with barracuda or blacktip reef sharks eyeing them from the periphery. Keep an eye out for the smaller stuff too: we've spotted Big-spot Anglers camouflaged among the corals and the tiny, delicate Sparse Eviota. It’s a site that rewards both the big-picture diver and the macro enthusiast.
