Jeff Davis Memorial - Klein Bonaire

Jeff Davis Memorial, off Klein Bonaire, is one of those sites we always try to hit when we’re in the area. It’s a shallow wreck, nothing too deep, which makes for a long, relaxed dive, and frankly, a pretty unique experience for Bonaire. We’re talking about a Civil War era schooner, and while it’s mostly broken up now, you can still trace the outline of the hull and imagine what she was like. The real draw here, beyond the history, is how the wreck has become part of the reef itself. Staghorn coral grows in impressive thickets around the remains, and you'll spot plenty of French grunts milling about in the shade. Keep an eye out for a Chain Moray peering from a crevice. We’ve seen Hawksbill and Green Turtles cruising overhead more often than not. It's an easy dive, perfect for photographers or anyone who likes to take their time exploring a piece of history that’s become a home for so much life.
