Playa Funchi - Klein Bonaire

Playa Funchi is one of our favourite spots on Klein Bonaire. It’s got that classic drop-off, a sheer wall of coral that just keeps going, though we usually top out around 20 metres or so. The sunlight really filters through the water here, illuminating these huge formations of pillar coral and boulder brain coral. We’ve had some fantastic encounters with sharpnose pufferfish here, almost comical in their movements, and it’s a good spot for fringed filefish if you keep your eyes peeled in the gorgonians. What really sets Playa Funchi apart for us is the sheer number of blennies. You’ll find pearl blennies and dusky blennies popping out of tiny crevices, endlessly entertaining. The schooling fish are often impressive too, with schoolmasters and herring moving in unison. We’d suggest a morning dive here, before any significant boat traffic, to really soak up the tranquility and the fantastic light. It’s an easy drift along the wall, perfect for photographers or anyone who just wants to glide and observe. The currents are generally mild, making it a relaxing dive for most skill levels.
