St George - Punta Cana
The St. George wreck off Punta Cana is a solid dive, particularly if you appreciate a good artificial reef. This former cargo ship, deliberately sunk, rests upright and fairly intact, which always makes for interesting penetration if you’re appropriately qualified. We’ve found barracuda often patrolling the mast and schools of grunts hanging out in the cargo holds. It’s a good spot for lionfish too, unfortunately, but also plenty of snapper and parrotfish grazing on the growth. The wreck sits in a decent current sometimes, so keep an eye on conditions. We’d say it's best suited for advanced divers who enjoy exploring interior spaces, though its sheer size makes for an enjoyable exterior tour for less experienced divers too.
