COROMOTO I - Tobago

The Coromoto I is a fantastic example of a purposeful wreck sinking, and it’s one of our favourite dives in Tobago for exactly that reason. This tugboat sits upright in about 25 metres of water, deliberately placed as an artificial reef, and she’s really delivered. You’ll spend most of your dive exploring the wheelhouse and engine room, which are surprisingly open for a wreck of this size, letting in beams of light that highlight the glint of silversides schooling inside. Look closely for resting nurse sharks tucked away beneath the bow and barracuda lurking in the deeper shadows. We love the way the Coromoto I has become completely integrated into the surrounding reef ecosystem. The deck is a riot of soft corals, and you’ll often spot massive green moray eels peeking out from pipes and crevices. Visibility here can be a bit variable, especially after heavy rain, but even with 10 metres, the wreck’s compact size makes it a rewarding dive. It’s perfect for divers who appreciate a wreck with a clear sense of structure and the marine life that quickly makes it home.
