MATHURA - Tobago

Mathura isn't a deep dive, sitting in just 8 meters of water, but don't let that fool you. This isn't just another wreck; it’s a piece of Tobago’s history. The former Coast Guard patrol boat caught fire and sank back in 1990, and now it’s become an artificial reef in a big way. We love Mathura for its atmosphere, especially on a sunny day when the light filters down through the shallows. What you'll find here is a really approachable wreck. You can swim right through the wheelhouse, imagining the crew on patrol. Keep an eye out for the resident green moray eel that often pokes its head out from a pipe, and we’ve consistently seen schools of grunts and snappers sheltering in the superstructure. The growth on Mathura is impressive, soft corals sway gently, and sponges add splashes of colour. It’s an easy, relaxed dive, perfect for photographers wanting to spend time framing shots or for anyone who enjoys a leisurely exploration of a wreck without the pressure of depth. We’d suggest going in the morning; the water tends to be calmer and the visibility at its best then.
