NICLAN I - Tobago
The Niclan I isn't a showy wreck, but she’s got character. We love this site for a relaxed, deep dive when the conditions are good, offering a lovely contrast to some of Tobago’s faster drifts. Sunk back in '75, this 20-meter motor vessel sits upright at 33 meters, a bit of a dark descent, but you break through to reveal her. It’s a proper old-school wreck dive, less about penetration and more about appreciating how time and the ocean reclaim things. You'll fin around her superstructure, the engine room accessible to experienced divers for a quick peek, but honestly, we spend most of our time admiring the sheer volume of schooling fish that call her home. Look for big schools of horse-eye jacks circling above the mast, and we’ve often spotted barracuda patrolling the deck. The coral growth isn’t spectacular, but there's a good smattering of encrusting sponges and anemones providing homes for crabs and smaller critters. It’s a quiet, contemplative dive, best suited for advanced divers comfortable at depth who appreciate the history as much as the life that now thrives on it. Dive it early if you can; the light really helps.
