MEIN KAPITAN - St. Thomas & St. John
The *Mein Kapitan*, a 18-meter merchant vessel, went down in 1988, and it’s a dive we always enjoy for its sheer accessibility and the sense of history it holds. Dropping down to 27 meters, you'll find the wreck largely intact, though time and the currents have certainly left their mark. We love poking around the cargo holds, imagining what this ship might have carried across the Caribbean. What makes it special for us is how marine life has absolutely taken over. Schools of snapper hang motionless over the deck, and you'll spot plenty of squirrelfish tucked into crevices. Keep an eye out for moray eels peering from the darker corners – they're always there. The site’s a solid choice for advanced open water divers looking to explore a proper wreck without the challenges of deeper or more exposed sites. Our favourite time to dive it is mid-morning, just after the sun has climbed high enough to really illuminate the upper sections of the wreck.
