TAIHO MARU - Chuuk (Truk) Lagoon
The Taiho Maru sits upright at 42 metres, a deep but rewarding dive for those comfortable with their buoyancy. It’s a steamship, sunk during Operation Hailstone in 1944, and while some parts show battle damage, much of its structure remains intact. We usually find the bow area particularly interesting, with a large anchor chain draped over the side and plenty of penetration points into the holds. Inside, a scattering of sake bottles and other personal effects hint at the lives of the crew, while outside, big schools of fusiliers often swirl around the mast, which reaches up into shallower water. A solid dive for wreck enthusiasts who enjoy a bit of history with their marine life.
