Lighthouse Channel - Rock Islands

Lighthouse Channel often gets overlooked in the clamour for Palau’s big drift dives, but we think that’s a mistake. It’s a quieter, shallower dive, perfect for a long bottom time, letting you really slow down and appreciate the details. We love it when the tide is heading out, pushing warmer lagoon water into the channel. That's when you see the small stuff truly come alive. The channel itself is a sheltered cut, with sunlight dappling through the overhangs. Look closely at the walls and you’ll find a riot of tiny organisms. Bluespotted Shrimpgobies share their burrows with shrimp, and if you’re patient, you might spot an Adorned Dwarfgoby darting between corals. We’ve spent whole dives just combing the reef for these micro-critters. Our favourite is watching the New Guinean Anglerfish, perfectly camouflaged, waiting for an unsuspecting meal. It’s a macro photographer’s dream, or just a beautiful spot to unwind after a drift. Keep an eye out for the occasional school of Golden Trevally cruising through. It’s not a high-octane dive, more of a peaceful exploration, but genuinely rewarding for those who appreciate the smaller things.
