Finding the Mitsubishi Zero near Kokopo is a fascinating trip back to a pivotal moment in history. This isn't a coral reef dive, but a look at a genuinely well-preserved piece of World War II aviation. The plane lies on its side, remarkably intact, and we've spent more than a few minutes just examining the details, like the distinct row of bullet holes along the fuselage. For those of us who appreciate military history or just want something a bit different from a typical reef dive, the chance to sit in the cockpit, even briefly, is pretty special. It’s a shallower dive, accessible for most, and a real highlight of the Rabaul area.
