Wanton Island
Why dive here
With 203+ marine species recorded in the area - including barracuda, giant moray eels, lionfish, nautiluses and pufferfish - Wanton Island offers some of Rabaul & New Britain's richest diving. Water ranges 30-31°C, warmest January, February, May.
Wanton Island offers some solid reef dives, a nice contrast to the area’s wreck focus. We’ve found the corals here to be in good shape, with plenty of reef fish flitting about. It's a peaceful spot, perfect for divers looking for a relaxed, easy dive after exploring Rabaul’s more intense historical sites. You won't find anything dramatic, just consistently pleasant diving.
