MV Funguo Wreck - Diani Beach & South Coast
The MV Funguo, a cargo vessel that went down decades ago, now sits upright on a sandy bottom, broken in a few places but largely intact. We love how the deck is still fairly accessible, letting us peek into the old cargo hold and imagine the journey she never finished. It’s a proper intermediate wreck dive, deep enough to feel substantial without pushing advanced limits, typically sitting around 18 metres to the deck and 28 metres to the sand. Penetration here is a real treat, not too tight, letting us explore the engine room and bridge if the conditions are right and your dive guide gives the nod. Sunlight shafts through openings, illuminating schools of silver moony and red squirrelfish that dart into the shadows. We’ve often found large bristletoothed surgeonfish grazing on the metal hull, and once, we even spotted a rarely seen crested sabretooth blenny peeking from a crevice. It's a great spot for wreck lovers who appreciate a bit of history and the vibrant life that takes over man-made structures. The currents can pick up, so we’d suggest timing your dive for slack tide for the best experience.
