Kuramathi Wreck - North Ari Atoll

The Kuramathi Wreck isn't about some dramatic shipwreck story; it's about how a fishing boat became a home. We love a site that shows nature taking over, and this Maldivian wreck does exactly that. Descending onto the sandy bottom, the bow points west, sitting upright and mostly intact. You can swim right through the wheelhouse, the light dappling through the open windows. Look for the resident moray eels peeking from the shadows inside, or the schools of glassfish that shimmer as you pass. Outside, the hull is thick with soft corals, swaying gently in the mild currents. We've seen massive napoleon wrasse cruise past here, and sometimes you'll spot white-tip reef sharks resting in the sand nearby. It’s a comfortable dive, usually with good visibility, making it perfect for photographers who want to take their time exploring the nooks and crannies. Our favourite time to dive it is mid-morning, just after the sun gets high enough to really illuminate the deck.
