Victory Wreck - North Malé Atoll

The Victory Wreck, sitting upright on the seabed in North Malé, is a proper wreck dive, not just a pile of scattered debris. We love how it’s matured into a living reef, completely colonised by corals – Staghorn and Table corals mostly, with some enormous gorgonian fans waving gently in the current. You’ll fin through schools of Ternate Chromis and Ghost Cardinalfish, often so thick they dim the light filtering down from the surface. Look closely in the nooks and crannies for honeycomb morays and Red Sea Longarm Octopus. It’s a relatively deep dive, with the main deck around 20-25 metres and the propeller deeper still, so bring your deep cert and good air consumption. The currents can be quite strong here, especially on an incoming tide, which is usually when we'd suggest diving it to get the clearest water. We’ve often seen Pickhandle Barracuda cruising the perimeter, and the resident Blackfin Soldierfish are always hovering in the shadowed sections. You can penetrate some of the cargo holds, but the silt can be easily stirred, so buoyancy control is key. It’s a great dive for those who appreciate both history and healthy reef life.
