JAMAL SHAH - Flic en Flac & West Coast

The Jamal Shah isn't your typical Mauritian wreck dive, and we love it for that. Forget plummeting into the blue; this carrier vessel is beached right near shore, giving it an eerie, almost post-apocalyptic vibe. Its immense hull, 91.7 metres long, just pokes out of the water in places, a testament to its abandonment after that engine room flooded. You'll spend your time here exploring the shallow, skeletal remains of the deck and superstructure, feeling the gentle surge push you through what used to be crew quarters. We'd suggest going at high tide for the best visibility, but even then, the real charm is in the atmosphere. The light filters down, illuminating schools of small baitfish darting amongst the twisted metal, and we’ve seen some surprisingly plump lionfish tucked into crevices. It's a fantastic spot for photographers looking for something a bit different, and its shallow depth means you can spend ages really soaking it all in, imagining its working life before it was left to the tides. It's not a deep reef experience, but a fascinating slice of maritime history, slowly being reclaimed by the ocean.
