Paradise Rock - Inner Islands

We love San Juan Reef for a chilled-out drift after the adrenaline of Barracuda or Cantarel. It’s a shallower spot, topping out around 20 metres, and the current here is usually just a gentle push, perfect for really soaking in the details. You’re carried over these massive formations of finger corals and big lettuce corals, like swimming through an ancient, underwater garden. We always keep an eye out for the smaller stuff – Goldspot Gobies perched on the sand, or the quirky Green Razorfish darting in and out of the seabed. Look closely in the ledges and overhangs, and you’ll often find schools of French Grunts huddled together, their stripes shimmering in the filtered light. It’s a great site for photographers who want to slow down, or for anyone who just wants to enjoy a relaxed, pretty reef without feeling rushed. The visibility here is consistently good, often pushing past 20 metres, so you’ve got plenty of light to see those vibrant reds of the seaweed and the endless damselfish flitting about.
