CITY OF LINCOLN - Cape Town & Western Cape

The City of Lincoln is one of those wrecks we always make time for when we’re in Simon’s Town. It’s not deep, just 10 metres, which means plenty of bottom time, and it’s surprisingly intact for a wreck that’s been down since 1902. You’re swimming through history here, feeling the cool surge of False Bay as you navigate the bow section and explore the massive anchor chains. We love seeing how the kelp has started to take hold, swaying with the currents, providing shelter for pyjama sharks and shy octopus tucked into crevices. Keep an eye out for the shy klipfish darting between the plates. The wreck itself is a playground of twisted metal and open holds, easily penetrable in places, making it a great spot for newer wreck divers to get a feel for overhead environments without too much commitment. It’s also our pick for a second dive when you’ve done something deeper in the morning. We’d suggest going on a day with minimal surge – it makes exploring the interior much more enjoyable.
