With 269+ marine species recorded in the area - including blue sharks, blue whales, dolphins, dwarf minke whales and great white sharks - Whirlpool cove offers some of Cape Town & Western Cape's richest reef diving. Water ranges 14-16°C, warmest February, March, April.
Whirlpool Cove is a decent reef dive, especially if you’re staying in the Cape Town area and looking for something convenient. We often find shy reef fish darting between the kelp fronds, along with the occasional catshark tucked into a crevice. It’s a good choice for divers wanting an easy, relaxed dive without venturing too far from the city. Expect a pleasant swim rather than a high-adrenaline drift.
