MI LIDDY - Hikkaduwa & South Coast

The MI LIDDY isn't about deep dives or big pelagics, it’s about accessibility and history. This stern trawler, sitting upright in just 3 metres of water, is perfect for a second dive or even a snorkel. We love how the shallow depth lets sunlight flood the wreck, illuminating the structure and making colours pop. You can swim right over the entire vessel, peering into the former hold and along the deck. The hull, though deteriorating from its dramatic sinking in Colombo Harbour back in '81, still offers plenty of nooks for small reef fish. Look out for schools of snapper darting around the superstructure and moray eels peeking from shadowed corners. It’s a completely different vibe from the deeper sites, a relaxed exploration where you can really take your time observing the detail of the wreck and the marine life that has made it home. We’d suggest going early in the morning for the best light and fewest people.
