Swami Rock - Trincomalee & East Coast

Swami Rock, right under the Koneswaram Temple, offers a different vibe from other Trinco sites. We've always found it a solid intermediate dive, mostly because of the occasional surge from the open ocean, especially if there's a bit of swell. You drop into a rocky reef that slopes down to about 20 metres, a good mix of coral patches and big granite boulders that make for some interesting swim-throughs if you know where to look. We love the sheer density of the smaller stuff here. You'll see squadrons of Bristle-toothed Surgeonfish, and those cheeky Striped Ponyfish always seem to be darting around. Our favourite spots are often tucked into the crevices; look for the Mangrove Crocodilefish, perfectly camouflaged against the rock, or a shy Enigmatic Moray peeking out. Big-eye Trevally often cruise by in loose groups, and we've bumped into a few reef sharks here, usually blacktips, just cruising the edges of the reef. It’s a site for divers who appreciate the finer details and a bit of a current to keep things interesting.
