With 41+ marine species recorded in the area - including humpback whales, sea turtles, spinner dolphins, napoleon wrasse and pufferfish - SOUTHERN PIONEER II offers some of Dar es Salaam & Offshore Islands's richest wreck diving. Water ranges 26-30°C, warmest March, April, December.
The *Southern Pioneer II* offers a different kind of dive off Dar, a tanker sunk in 1976 that now sits upright in 15 meters. It’s not a huge wreck at 57 meters, but the superstructure is still largely intact, making for some interesting swim-throughs if you're comfortable with overhead environments. We've seen some decent schools of snapper and fusiliers congregating around the bow, and a few good-sized groupers often patrol the holds. Visibility can be a bit variable here, but on a good day, it’s a solid dive for those who enjoy exploring a piece of maritime history and the life that now calls it home.
