HMS ABDIEL - Vlora
The HMS Abdiel, sunk off Vlora, is a properly atmospheric wreck at a very accessible 11 metres. We love that it’s still largely intact despite being a casualty of war in 1943. You can still make out the ship’s structure – the bow, stern, and even the remains of the bridge are discernible – giving it a real ghost-ship feel. The wreck itself stretches out, providing plenty to explore without feeling overwhelming. For a Mediterranean wreck, it’s surprisingly lively. Schools of small fish dart in and out of the plating, and we’ve seen moray eels peeking from crevices. It’s a great site for newer wreck divers or those who just want a relaxed dive with a good dose of history. We’d suggest going on a calm day; while shallow, a bit of chop can stir things up and reduce visibility around the wreck. Dive it slow, let your eyes adjust, and appreciate the scale of it all.
