HMS HEBE - Vlora
Okay, Vlora might not be the first place you think of for wreck diving, but the HMS Hebe is a genuine surprise. This minesweeper sits upright in just 7 metres of water, making it incredibly accessible and a fantastic second dive. We love that you can spend ages just cruising over the deck, picking out details like the anti-aircraft gun mounts and the general shape of the superstructure. It's not a wreck you penetrate, but the sheer size and historical presence are palpable. The Hebe went down in 1943, and the years underwater have given it a beautiful, encrusted patina. Think large schools of damselfish flitting through the skeletal remains, octopus tucked into crevices, and nudibranchs grazing on the metalwork. Our favourite time to visit is mid-morning, when the sun penetrates the shallow water, illuminating the wreck and making the colours pop. It’s perfect for new wreck divers wanting to experience a significant piece of history without deep-water challenges, and also a brilliant spot for photographers wanting long bottom times. Just watch for occasional fishing lines – it's a popular spot for locals too.
