TRICHEO - Vlora
Triccheo. Just the name sounds a bit mysterious, doesn't it? This isn't one of those wrecks that’s all over Instagram, and we like that. What we found here, just off Vlora, was a genuinely atmospheric dive. The UJ Triccheo, an Italian submarine, went down in '42, and she sits upright at a gentle 22 metres. It’s an ideal depth for really getting a feel for the place without rushing. The first thing that hits you is the sheer scale. She’s long, and the stern section, in particular, feels very intact. We especially loved finning along her length, imagining the silent drama of that day. You’ll spot the conning tower pretty quickly, draped in fishing nets, giving it an eerie, almost ghostly appearance. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the hydroplanes, and we saw a hefty moray eel peeking from a torpedo tube. The metal itself is a canvas for marine life, with patches of bright yellow sponges and small nudibranchs if you look closely. It's a proper historical dive, a journey back in time, and far more engaging than your average pile of scattered metal.
