Attersee - Weißenbacheinlauf (Leitplanke) - Istria Peninsula

Fancy Wreck Shoal, for us, is one of those sites that just feels right from the moment you drop in. It’s not about grand, intact structures here, but the scattered, almost ghostly remains of what we believe was a Japanese supply vessel. Think of it less as a single wreck and more as an archaeological scatter site, with metal plates, hull sections, and the occasional rib sticking out of the sand. We love tracing the debris field, imagining the ship breaking apart all those decades ago. The real draw? The way nature has absolutely reclaimed this place. Every piece of metal, every crevice, is draped in sponges, soft corals, and anemones. You'll spot lionfish tucked under overhangs, schools of snapper circling what used to be a bulkhead, and if you’re patient, a turtle or two munching on algae. Our favourite part is finding the glassfish clouds that shimmer around the larger sections, making the whole scene sparkle. This site suits divers who appreciate history and the slow, steady reclamation by the reef, rather than those chasing big pelagics. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light really brings out the colours of the corals.
