Banjol - Istria Peninsula

Banjol is one of those Croatian sites we find ourselves recommending a lot, especially if you’re looking for a relaxed dive with plenty to see without battling crazy currents. It's a shallow-to-medium depth site, perfect for long bottom times and really soaking it all in. We love the feeling of drifting through the thick Neptune's lace, it’s like swimming through an underwater meadow. Keep your eyes peeled for the Scarlet Coral splashes of colour and the delicate Sunset cup corals clinging to the rocks. This is a brilliant spot for macro enthusiasts, with Hooded Shrimp and the Mediterranean Tooth-footed Snapping Shrimp playing peek-a-boo in the crevices. We often spot common lobsters here too, usually tucked away in little hidey-holes. The Damsel fish flit around in big schools, and we’ve had some cracking encounters with conger eels here. For a relaxed, vibrant dive that rewards slow exploration, Banjol is a firm favourite of ours. It's especially good in the late afternoon when the light filters just right.
