Überlingen Tennisplatz - Istria Peninsula

Twin Lagoon is less a traditional dive site and more an exploration of a very unique aquatic environment, and that’s why we love it. Forget deep reefs here. This is about shallow, cavernous swims into sun-dappled grottoes, where the air temperature shifts noticeably as you move from the open lagoon into the enclosed spaces. The "dive" itself is often a snorkel or a free-dive, swimming through a narrow, often submerged passage that connects the outer lagoon to a hidden inner chamber. We’d suggest going at slack tide to make the swim through the "keyhole" entrance easier. Inside, the water can be cooler, with an almost silty feel in places, and the light plays tricks off the limestone walls. Keep an eye out for the smaller, more unusual inhabitants – the Pearl-jawed Cardinalfish often hover in the shadows, and we’ve spotted tiny gobies like the Black-spotted Snubnose clinging to the rock faces. It’s an intimate, slightly surreal experience, best for those who appreciate geological wonders and a different kind of underwater adventure over typical coral gardens.
