Bocchiaplatz - Istria Peninsula

The HMS Tenedos is one of our favourite dives in Hikkaduwa, a properly moody wreck for those who appreciate a bit of history beneath the waves. This isn’t a colourful reef dive; it’s about the wreck itself, a 1918 S-class destroyer that’s broken up over time but still holds its shape surprisingly well. We love finning over the deck plates, imagining the scale of it before it hit the seabed. You’ll find a lot of the structure has become home to small critters – we often spot Bar-tailed Flatheads hunkered down in the sand nearby, and Scissortail Sergeants darting around the remaining ribs of the ship. Look closely for the Spotted Tobies and Pufferfish tucked into crevices. The wreck lies at a comfortable depth, making it a good choice for advanced open-water divers who want to spend some time exploring rather than rushing a deep bounce dive. Visibility can swing, but on a good day, the light plays beautifully through the superstructure, giving it a real atmospheric feel. It’s a proper dive for wreck lovers, offering a quiet exploration rather than a frantic wildlife show.
