Chrüztrichter - Istria Peninsula

Sakubaru Gyosho, in the Kerama Islands, is one of those sites that just feels alive. We dive it again and again because it always delivers. The sheer volume of coral here is what makes it a standout. You descend onto an expansive, gently sloping reef, absolutely covered in huge patches of staghorn, vibrant yellow scroll coral, and intricate Montipora. It’s a proper coral garden, not just a few scattered heads. The reef fish here are plentiful, a constant blur of activity. We’ve spent whole dives just watching the schools of fusiliers darting between the coral branches, often with a curious remora tagging along. It’s a great spot for photographers looking for wide-angle shots of healthy reefscapes. Visibility is typically good, often exceeding 20 meters, which really lets you appreciate the scale of the coral formations. We’d suggest hitting it on a calm day, as some parts can get a bit surgey, making it harder to get that perfect shot without getting knocked about.
