Mirko Diving Center - Istria Peninsula
The team at Mirko Diving Center are exactly who you want to dive with on the Istrian coast. This family-run operation, led by Mirko and Arijan Žigo, feels like diving with old friends, but with all the professionalism you’d expect from seasoned pros. We love that they’re open year-round, which means escaping the summer crowds and having some of our favourite local spots almost to ourselves, especially in the crisp, clear visibility of late autumn. They’re brilliant for anyone new to the sport; their introductory dives are patient and thorough, getting you comfortable in the water before you know it. For certified divers, it’s their knowledge of the local wrecks and reefs that really stands out. We’d suggest asking them about the Lina, a freighter sitting in about 50 metres, or for something shallower, the Baron Gautsch, though that one can get busy. If you’re lucky enough to stay in their on-site accommodation, the convenience is fantastic – roll out of bed and onto the boat. Just be sure to chat with them about conditions; Istria can throw up a surprise current or two, but Mirko and Arijan always know the best spots to duck into.
