Eichwald - Istria Peninsula

Reef Patches is a lovely, easy dive, a perfect warm-up or wind-down. We love it because it’s a gentle drift over these beautiful, scattered coral heads, like little underwater islands rising from the sand. You’ll see plenty of parrotfish here – the Blue Trim and Rainbow Parrotfish are always grazing, their crunching almost audible if you listen closely. We’ve found the Giant Squirrelfish tucked into crevices, their huge eyes seeming to glow. The magic here is in the detail. Look closely for the Peacock-tail Anemone Shrimp swaying on its host anemone, or the tiny, colourful Crested Sabretooth Blenny peeking from its hole. It’s not about big pelagics, but about the intricate life within the reef itself. Visibility is usually good, and currents are mild enough for even newer divers to relax and truly soak it all in. We’d suggest going in the morning; the light hitting the patches is just stunning.
