FERRERO - Istria Peninsula

Ferrero isn't one of those wrecks that’ll slap you in the face with its history; it’s more subtle, a quiet beauty. This fishing vessel sits upright at 29 metres, and what we love about it is the way the light filters down through the gin-clear Adriatic. You can circle the entire hull, peer into the wheelhouse, and explore the deck. It’s got that slightly eerie, slightly melancholic feel that only a sunken boat can truly convey. We've seen conger eels poking their heads from the engine room, and the deck itself is a magnet for scorpionfish, blending in perfectly with the rust and algae. Shoals of small damselfish flit around the mast, which is usually draped in soft corals. We’d suggest going early in the morning before the boat traffic picks up, when the visibility is at its best and the wreck feels like it’s yours alone. It’s a brilliant dive for those who enjoy a bit of penetration, or just a leisurely swim around a well-preserved piece of maritime history.
