Freibacher Stausee - Istria Peninsula

Freibacher Stausee is a good spot for a relaxed dive if you’re exploring inland Istria. It's a freshwater lake, obviously, so don't come expecting coral. What you will find is a calm, shallow environment, usually around 10 meters, making it ideal for beginners or those doing a skills refresher. Visibility can vary, but on a good day, you'll get decent views of the submerged trees and logs, which create some interesting swim-throughs. Keep an eye out for pike lurking in the shadows and various freshwater fish flitting between the branches. It’s a completely different vibe from the Adriatic, a quiet change of pace.
