Gilda Wreck - Istria Peninsula

Diving the Gilda wreck feels like stepping into a cold, watery history book. This isn't some perfectly preserved ghost ship; it's a working cargo vessel that went down in 1940, and the years have definitely left their mark. You’ll find her resting upright at 26 meters, largely intact, which always makes a wreck dive more satisfying than scattered debris. We love the penetration opportunities here. The holds are open and easy to explore for those comfortable inside, revealing parts of her original cargo – ceramic tiles, if you look closely. Outside, the superstructure hosts a surprising amount of life. Scorpionfish are usually lounging on the deck, and we've often seen conger eels poking their heads from pipes and crevices. The light filtering down creates these beautiful, shifting patterns on the hull. It’s a dive that rewards careful exploration rather than a quick swim-through, perfect for intermediate divers who appreciate the story behind the metal.
