IMPERIA - Istria Peninsula

The Imperia wreck off the Istrian coast is one of those dives that sticks with you, even if it's not the deepest. We love a good accessible wreck, and this one, sitting at a comfortable 15 meters, is perfect for divers who want to spend some quality bottom time exploring. She was a merchant ship, sunk during World War II, and now she’s completely broken up. You won't find an intact hull here, but that's precisely what makes her so fascinating. The real draw at Imperia is the way the sea has reclaimed her. What’s left of the ship is scattered across the seabed, forming these incredible nooks and crannies that are just bursting with life. We’ve spent whole dives just poking around the collapsed sections, watching moray eels peer out from under steel plates and schools of damselfish flit between rusted beams. Octopus often hide in the darker recesses, and it’s always a thrill to spot one changing colour to blend in. The visibility here is usually pretty good, and on sunny days, the light filtering down through the water onto the metal is just something else. Our favourite part has to be the feeling of discovering each new section, imagining the ship as she once was. It's a proper adventure, and a great dive for anyone who appreciates history interwoven with vibrant marine life.
