Key West - Istria Peninsula

L-Ahrax Point, tucked away on Malta's northern tip, offers a really compelling shore dive, especially if you’re into the Mediterranean’s quieter side. We love the feeling of descent through the gin-clear water, typically 20-25m visibility, where sunlight dapples the sandy bottom. It’s not about big pelagics here; it's the smaller, often overlooked species that steal the show. Keep your eyes peeled along the rocky ledges for Painted Comber and Blacktail Bream darting in and out, and if you’re lucky, a Nursehound might be snoozing under an overhang. We’ve had some cracking encounters with Sea Horses nestled amongst the Mediterranean tapeweed, so move slowly and scan carefully. The various cup corals – Devonshire and Sunset – add splashes of colour against the rock. It’s a site that rewards patience and a keen eye. We'd suggest going in the morning before any wind picks up, making the entry and exit much smoother. L-Ahrax Point is ideal for divers who appreciate macro life and the unique ecology of the Med, rather than those chasing dramatic walls or large schools.
