LEDA (POSSIBLY) - Istria Peninsula

The wreck often called Leda, although its true identity remains a bit of a local mystery, is one of our favourite shallow dives off Istria. It’s a carrier vessel, about 17 meters deep, which means good bottom time and plenty of ambient light filtering through the Adriatic blue. We love how accessible it is, perfect for divers who want to explore a proper wreck without needing advanced certifications or decompression planning. Sunk in 1971 during heavy weather on a passage from Porto Levante to Trieste, the Leda now rests upright, largely intact. You can fin around its cargo holds, where schools of small damselfish flit in and out of the shadows. There are big conger eels tucked into the darker corners, and the deck is carpeted in jewel anemones and sponges, providing a vibrant contrast to the ship’s rusting steel. The stern area is particularly photogenic, often teeming with inquisitive wrasse. We’d suggest going in the morning; the sun angle really brings out the colours on the superstructure. It’s a genuinely relaxing dive, letting you take your time soaking it all in.
