Lopper Rote Route 1 - Istria Peninsula

Gahi Mae, off the Kerama Islands, is a site we return to again and again, especially when we’re looking for a solid, rewarding dive without too much fuss. It doesn't scream for attention like some of the deeper Kerama cuts, but it’s a reliable crowd-pleaser for a good reason. The main draw here is the sheer health of the hard coral. We’re talking sprawling beds of staghorn and branching corals that stretch out like underwater forests. It feels expansive, almost endless, in a way that’s increasingly rare to find. Drifting over the coral, you'll spot plenty of orange-lined triggerfish darting in and out, and if you have a keen eye, a triton's trumpet snail slowly making its way across a colony. We love heading there mid-morning, just as the sun is high enough to really illuminate the shallow parts of the reef, casting those dappled light patterns that make everything feel a bit magical. It's a fantastic spot for photographers who appreciate the intricate details of a healthy reefscape, and it’s generally a calm enough dive for those newer to the Keramas without feeling too tame.
