LUCIA 11 - Istria Peninsula

The Lucia 11 wreck, a wooden fishing trawler, sits upright on the seabed at a comfortable 13 metres. We love this site for its accessibility and the way it tells a story without needing a history book. You can swim right into the wheelhouse, seeing the gauges still in place, which always gets us. The holds are open too, a wide inviting dark space where moray eels often peer out from. Schools of damselfish shimmer around the mast, and we’ve spotted impressive scorpionfish camouflaged on the deck planks, blending perfectly with the algae. Our favourite part has to be the stern, where the prop is still partially buried in the sand, covered in vivid green algae. It’s a gentle dive, perfect for those newer to wreck diving or anyone wanting a relaxed second dive. Visibility here is generally good, often 15 metres plus, especially on a calm morning before the winds pick up. Just watch out for the occasional fishing line snagged on the wreck, always a good reminder to carry a knife.
