MTB 697 - Istria Peninsula

The MTB 697 is a surprisingly robust little wreck, sitting in just a meter of water near Krk Island. We love it because it’s so accessible, making it our pick for a leisurely afternoon dive that still delivers on character. This isn't some deep, dark mystery; you’re practically snorkelling over history. She’s a torpedo boat, sunk by a mine in 1945. You can trace her outline easily, even from the surface. The hull is largely intact, though heavily encrusted, and we often find small shoals of juvenile bream darting through the rusted metal. Look closely and you’ll spot nudibranchs grazing on the algae, their vibrant colours a stark contrast to the muted tones of the wreck. It’s a gentle site, calm and protected, ideal for photographers wanting to practice close-up shots without fighting current. We’d suggest going in the morning; the sun catches the metal just right, illuminating every detail.
