Peltastis - Istria Peninsula

The Peltastis, oh, she’s a beauty. Lying just off the Istrian coast, this freighter went down in 1914, but you wouldn't know it from how well-preserved she feels today. We love heading down early, just as the sun starts to filter through the water; the light plays on her superstructure and makes the whole site feel a bit magical. Dropping down, the sheer scale of her is impressive – you can navigate through the cargo holds, poke your head into the engine room, and even explore the crew quarters if you're comfortable with overhead environments. Our favourite part is the stern, where the propeller still sits intact, a fantastic photo opportunity. The wreck acts like its own artificial reef, attracting schools of damselfish that dart in and out of the metal framework. We’ve spotted conger eels peeking from shadowy crevices and the occasional scorpionfish camouflaged on the deck plates. It’s a dive that rewards slow exploration, perfect for those who appreciate a bit of history mixed with their marine life.
